Peintre Confirmé (F/H)

Carries out paint application on each part using specific tools.

Relational

Internal:

o Hierarchical:
Reports to the Supervisor or the Activity Manager.
o Functional:
Works closely with paint preparation staff (for technical coordination) and the paint logistics coordinator (for work instructions).

Description

Comply with Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) instructions

  • Comply with the Health, Safety & Environmental Instruction Sheet (FCSE) for the workstation
  • Follow 5S methodology
  • Propose ideas regarding new protective equipment, workstation improvements, and tools that could facilitate tasks within the workshop.

Check the documentation

  • Ensure previous process stages have been completed
  • Take into account any previous Non-Conformity Reports (FNC)
  • Report anomalies and record times during initial production runs
  • Handle critical parts files and verify announced serial numbers
  • Suggest improvements to the relevance of comments and information in the GRof (routing sheets, phase sequencing, etc.).

Ensure parts match the job specifications

  • Ensure the physical quantity matches the quantity listed on the GROF
  • Confirm the parts correspond (shape, size, serial number)
  • Cross-check the reference launched in the GROF with the client’s drawing
  • Perform 100% verification of serial numbers, reservations, and marking locations
  • Check the applicable drawing revision in the order and validate the plan
  • entify tolerance zones and understand their impact on production sensitivity.

Record all operations performed

  • Complete documentation: name/date/quantity/notes manually and via barcode scanning
  • Perform start-of-shift checks (first-level maintenance, measuring equipment calibration, etc.)
  • Report any issue on the file or part via an action sheet for blocked orders
  • Record serial numbers in MECAPROTEC documents
  • Provide relevant comments to enhance production quality and communication.

Confirm the integrity of the parts

  • Detect visual defects and report them to the Quality Inspector
  • Visually assess part condition to confirm the previous step has been completed correctly
  • Identify non-conforming parts, determine the cause, and report to the quality controller
  • Trace identified non-conformities and propose corrective and preventive actions.

Paint or Varnish Application

Paint complex-shaped parts (brackets, honeycomb components, lightweight parts) using complex paints (e.g. Standox, ECL-G White, Molykote) and implement product or process changes in coordination with support departments.

  • Clean and/or blow off parts before painting
  • Apply basic primer and finish coats to simple-shaped parts (ex. P60/F70)
  • Check own work after application (appearance and thickness); know how to calibrate the measuring equipment
  • Follow paint sheet parameters (desolvation time, curing time, etc.)
  • Ensure parts are correctly mounted before painting
  • Block non-conforming parts and carry out touch-ups under the supervision of a qualified painter
  • Adapt assembly setup based on part complexity (flat, hanging, etc.)
  • Diagnose defect causes
  • Extend desolvation time when needed
  • Anticipate painting preparations to optimise production
  • Understand the root cause of non-quality and take corrective action
  • Detect anomalies (documentation, parts, paints, setups, etc.)
  • Use various types of spray guns (gravity, electrostatic, etc.)
  • Contribute technical expertise to quality issues, implementation of new paints, etc.

Equipment and Booth Maintenance

  • Complete the first-level maintenance form at the start of the shift: record booth temperature and humidity, test compressed air cleanliness per the current procedure, test the shower and eyewash station, check filter conditions.
  • Adjust temperature and humidity settings if deviations are observed; stamp all associated paint sheets with “Enhanced Inspection” if conditions deviate from the required standards, check drum levels at the beginning of the shift, use the electrical cabinet controls to keep temperature (T°) and humidity (H°) values within standard ranges
  • Maintain and clean the spray gun
  • Check drum levels at shift start (task of paint preparer)
  • Start up an installation or zone unused for more than 24 hours
  • Operate the paint heating system (marmite)
  • Respond appropriately to persistent or excessive deviations
  • Maintain spray gun, including full disassembly and reassembly.

Handling the Trolley and Verifying Administrative Information Before Application

  • Check that the paint sheets correspond to the identification marked by the assembler on the racks; confirm that the GrOF numbers and layers match the relevant paint sheets
  • Ensure traceability of each paint layer: indicate your name and date on the paint sheet for the layer being applied, scan all paint sheets using the barcode for the relevant layer
  • Collect all paint sheets once the trolley is completed
  • Record desolvation and curing times: indicate on the trolley the time it enters the desolvation area and the minimum entry time for the oven
  • Confirm traceability of prior steps: verify that previous stages have been validated and ensure the correct colour is selected for application
  • Follow set priorities (via the Communication Board) and observe the paint FIFO (First In, First Out) principle
  • Interpret non-conformity sheets linked to paint files
  • Anticipate paint preparation requirements
  • Assess the source of recurring defects
  • Provide the paint preparer with the next batch of paint sheets and process numbers
  • Propose a rework process that brings the product back into conformity while considering lead time constraints.

Production Control

Responsibility / Initiative

  • Error risks are part of routine activity; the painter must establish a personal error-detection system
  • Overcome challenges by assessing and applying appropriate methods
  • Show initiative in identifying and adapting technically and economically viable solutions
  • Share knowledge through mentoring
  • May be required to participate in audits.

Autonomy

  • Completes instructions, chooses between multiple methods, and may adapt processes within the boundaries of the specialisation.
  • Has genuine autonomy in task execution, while ensuring the necessary control actions are triggered.

Required knowledge

  • Knowledge of all relevant industrial paint standards
  • Be proficient in operating the equipment (paint tanks, spray guns, etc.)
  • Ability to clean and maintain application equipment effectively
  • Formation aux critères d’acceptation des pièces.
