Non-destructive Testing

Also known as material health inspection, NDT is a complementary process to surface treatment preparation. Its purpose is to verify the compliance and integrity of the substrate

It includes two main methods: fluorescent penetrant inspection and magnetic particle inspection.

Services provided by MECAPROTEC:

  • Fluorescent penetrant inspection
  • Magnetic particle inspection
  • Hardness testing
  • Conductivity testing

Shot peening

Shot peening is a process used to induce compressive residual surface stresses, thereby enhancing the mechanical properties of metals.

Services provided by MECAPROTEC:

  • Ultrasonic
  • Conventional

Chemical milling

Chemical milling is used to reduce the weight of titanium or aluminium panels. This weight reduction cannot be achieved mechanically and requires immersion in high-temperature chemical baths that dissolve material in a controlled manner.

MECAPROTEC performs chemical milling on aerostructure components such as outer panels and leading edges, with the aim of reducing weight — a critical factor in the aerospace industry.

Services provided by MECAPROTEC:

  • On Aluminium
  • On Titanium

Surface treatment

The primary function of surface treatment is to enhance corrosion and wear resistance of various types of parts before their final assembly and commissioning.

These operations ensure that the treated parts comply with applicable regulations and standards, offering MECAPROTEC's customers improved performance and reduced lead times.

We perform all surface treatments commonly used in the aerospace industry, including cadmium plating, phosphating, oxidation, anodising, chemical conversion, and zinc-nickel plating. This expertise is backed by the necessary process qualifications to guarantee full compliance and reliability.

Services provided by MECAPROTEC:

Steel & Stainless steel

  • Cadmium plating with passivation
  • Zinc-Nickel plating (cadmium substitute)
  • Manganese Phosphating
  • Passivation of austenitic and martensitic stainless steels

Aluminium & Titanium

  • Sulpho-Tartaric Anodising
  • Long-Cycle Sulpho-Tartaric Anodising
  • Sulphuric Anodising
  • Chemical Conversion

Painting

This stage of the painting process completes the surface treatment of a part. In all cases, the paint layer reinforces the protection of the material it covers, thereby enhancing its resistance to corrosion.

However, the application is not always uniform and certain parts require masking of specific areas and/or the application of multiple layers of different paint types. This is where the true complexity of the profession lies.

Moreover, the implementation of the REACH regulation has required paint manufacturers to reformulate their products. As a result, MECAPROTEC now uses water-based paints with very high solid content. The company works with a wide variety of paint systems (over 400 in total), in addition to an already extensive catalogue of approved materials (over 300), making the execution of this process even more demanding.

Services provided by MECAPROTEC:

Liquid paint

  • Water-based paint
  • conductive paint
  • Polyurethane, epoxy, vinyl, cellulosic
  • Finishing varnishes

Special coatings

  • Low-friction coating: molykote, molydal, etc.

Small equipment assembly

Each operation is carried out meticulously, in strict accordance with customer orders and technical documentation requirements. Precision and focus are essential, as we often work on very small components where every element matters to ensure the quality and conformity of the delivered parts.

Our small equipment assembly activity involves transforming bare parts into fully equipped components, ready to be integrated into various assembly lines. This precision work involves multiple technical processes, such as riveting, nut assembly, sealing and press-fitting of bushings using differential temperature methods, sealing applications, gasket bonding, crimping, and paint touch-ups.

Services provided by MECAPROTEC:

  • Paint touch-up
  • Metallizing
  • Ring assembly (nitrogen, bonding, sealing)
  • Ball joint assembly
  • Riveting
  • Application of mastics
